You are, who you decide to be at any given moment.
You do not need money in the bank. You do not need more education. You do not need more experience. You do not need better connections. You do not need to be older. You do not need to be younger. You simply need to choose. Choose who you are, your life and choose it now.
Your life is choice. God gave you free will to choose, so do so. Choose who you are and be that person. If you are using any excuse — and I do any excuse — then stop it! To be successful, you must get out of your own way.
Everything you want is on the other side of fear. Fear keeps you from choosing the life and success you could deserve. I say “could” because you do not deserve it if you do not choose it. There is a saying, “Fortune favors the bold.” So, be bold.
I tell my son every day of his life, “Think big, live large and you are in charge.” You were not meant to think small, play small and live small — someone taught you those things. You were taught to not try, to be safe, to not get hurt. Can you imagine on your deathbed saying “Well, I played it safe, I didn’t get hurt. I never tired, so I didn’t fail.”
You are every bit as worthy as anyone else, but you have to claim it. If you are not willing to claim it then I promise the world will not just come along and anoint you. I see people every day who are far more talented and smarter than others who are way more successful than them. These smarter, more talented people, however, refused to believe in themselves. Therefore, they choose to play small.
You were not born a small thinker. As a kid, you definitely played big. Those around you taught you their fears. Whenever you tried something, someone with a huge amount of fear was there to quickly scold you and reel you in. Eventually, it became a learned behavior. Your subconscious grabbed your fear and refused to let go. You allowed yourself to settle for mediocrity. I promise that, as a kid, you never exclaimed, “I want to grow up to be mediocre! Average sounds like so much fun!”
Recently, I bought a new Corvette Stingray. As a kid, my dream car was a Corvette and have chosen to have several of them during my life. Of course, there were people who commented to me, “That’s just not practical.” My reply was, “Who in the hell asked for your opinion? Why would I live my life and make my choices based upon your concepts?” I promise you, I never once got up in the morning and said, “I can’t wait to be practical!” Practical is so motivating!” What those people do not realize is that, in my philosophy of life, buying a Corvette is far more practical for me than settling for something that the world has told me I should settle for. Stop letting others create your reality based upon their limitations and fears.
When I was young, I moved across the country without money, a place to stay or knowing anyone in that town. People told me it was crazy. It worked out really well. When I started my business, people told me it was too big of a risk. It worked out really well. When I wrote my book, people told me I could not land a major publisher for a book about sales, and that I was deluded to even try. I landed a major publisher in three weeks on my first attempt and it worked out really well. I cannot think of anything I have ever done that there wasn’t someone telling me I could not do it. The reality of all those people was that they could not do it because they had too much fear; they just settled and wanted to pass on to me their wisdom of settling. I chose not to listen.
Stop giving away your power to people with no power. Choose what you want and go for it. You will have trials and tribulations. You will have failures. And, because of all of that, you will win.
